Trapped Atop of Mt Rainier
Climbing Kautz Glacier and Disappointment Cleaver

I'll skip details and only say there were five of us planning to climb Mt Rainier via Kautz Glacier to the top, camp in the crater and descend via Disappointment Cleaver (DC). Two persons were traveling and climbing other mountains with me (my rope-team) and two others (the second rope-team) we were supposed to meet in Paradise (and they were supposed to follow us). In fact I was hoping to climb Furer Finger first and then Kautz but it all changed.

Due to icy conditions in the steep gully near Kautz Ice Cliff and insufficient ice climbing experience I asked two guys from my (rope) team to do the standard route instead and they did it seamlessly in two days staying just one night at Camp Muir.

The rest of us headed up together but still as two teams (two-person-rope-team and solo). At the lower elevation of the mountain we were all in good
moods. However, at the Camp Hazard area (11,300feet), were the more technical part begins, we got separated and...
