Generally similar to the Marmot Expedition Mitt in terms of durability, warmth and features. Marmot and The North Face would argue but they are both synthetic fill and will break down with time. They are both incredibly warm... considerably warmer than the OR Expedition Mitt.

  • 210D Dyneema
  • Uberfabric in gauntlet fabric

Untitled Review
I bought these to contend with the cold when I moved from the Northwest to Colorado. The latter is much, much colder in my experience and I found that my hands got incredibly cold very quickly. These puppies solved that problem pretty quickly: if anything, my hands have been too warm the few times I've used them, which is much better than the alternative. Hadn't bought anything by TNF for a long time, but these mits, while expensive, do what they were designed to do...

Very warm
I wore the Himalayan Mitt on both Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro in temps down to 0(F) and they kept me very warm. Interestingly, I started one of the climbs wearing a fleece glove and then put the mitt on over them as the temperature started to drop, but I couldn't get my hands to warm up. I stopped and took the fleece gloves off and just wore the mitts alone and it was remarkable how fast my hands warmed up after that. A glove liner would probably work well, but I didn't have them with me then.

The mitt is very lightweight and well constructed, with a cinch cord over the wrist and another one over the forearm to keep out drafts and snow.

Don't like them too much
Mine are 2006 version, synthetic insulation shifts very easily in the palm area, leaving a possibly cold spot at the fingertops. Palm leather is of very good quality though. The 2008 version looks more decent.
