Marmot EOS 1 - a lightweight tent

At under 3 pounds, this freestanding tent offers a super-lightweight, comfortable and spacious one-person shelter. The canopy is made from lightweight nylon rip-stop with the use of extensive mesh for ventilation. The lightweight, durable nylon rip-stop rain-fly has a silicone/PU coating for waterproof protection and UV resistance.

The DAC Featherlite® aluminum poles, light and strong with no inserts, are less susceptible to failure than some others. The integrated, lightweight hubs give a strong geometric pole design, with the advantage of lower overall weight.
Tent with Fly

Strong, versatile Stake-TapeTM allow adjustability when setting up the tent. The Window WeldTM inset gives views to the outside, lets in light, without a big increase in weight. Key locations on the rain-fly are reflective so one can easily locate the tent in the dark. Integrated pockets on the inside of the tent keep small items off the tent floor.
Fly Only

Marmot's attention to detail includes locking pole tips and silicon-treated, smooth-operating zippers with jingle-free nylon zipper pulls. Stuff sacks, stakes, repair fabric, pole repair sleeve, guy cord, and sliders and buckle are included. The vestibule provides a protected storage area for boots and a pack.

The average minimum weight specification is for the tent, rain-fly, and poles only. For a bare-bones, ultra-light setup, consider using only the footprint (sold separately) with the rain-fly.

Light-Weight 1-Person Tent
I recently purchased the Marmot EOS 1, a choice based on research for a 1-person tent which wouldn't add too much weight to my backcountry travels. At just under 3.5 pounds (maximum weight), it fits the bill.

Over all, the tent appears to be “as advertised” and quite impressive. The weight is phenomenally low considering the tent’s features. One thing I really like, is that I was able to set it up the first time in a very few minutes without having read the instructions – a typical “male thing.”

The EOS 1 provides adequate room for me, a fairly small person (5’ 7”, 135 lb) and the vestibule will hold the equipment I usually carry. I suspect though, that a person much over 6 feet tall would find it cramped.

I haven’t yet used the tent for my intended purpose (the Montana high county where I plan to go won’t be easily accessible for at least another month). Once I do, I’ll change this review to reflect my experiences.
