Product Description

Combining hardshell protection with softshell flexibility, the Dawn Patrol Hybrid Shell is a dynamic, hybrid layer built for continuous movement and unpredictable weather.

From cold-and-clear starts to summit-ridge whiteouts, the Black Diamond Dawn Patrol Hybrid Shell responds to non-stop movement through mixed conditions with a combination of hardshell protection and softshell flexibility. The jacket's main Schoeller stretch-woven softshell body offers stretchy, highly breathable protection for high-output simul-climbing, steep skin tracks and tricky mixed pitches, while the three-layer, body-mapped waterproof panels in key areas shed blowing snow, wet ice and unexpected precip. Ample chest, hand and internal drop pockets store everything from glove liners to energy bars, and an internal media pocket with a cord port keeps the tunes flowing on the approach.

Great combination jacket.
I was looking for a good jacket, both breathable and waterproof. When Black Diamond announced their apparel line earlier this year and this was offered, I gave it a shot. This jacket is very packable when not in use and very light. The Schoeller material is light yet very tough, abrasion resistant. The jacket offers the stretch of a soft-shell yet remains waterproof, the best of both worlds. It is not the warmest jacket in cold temps, so layering will still be needed depending on the environment. This jacket has a lot of pockets! Two zippered hand pockets, two vertical chest pockets are a real plus on this one if you carry more odds and ends and I do. The left chest pocket also has a slot for a phone or media player. Also two interior pockets are located inside down near the waist.

The hood on this is large enough to fit over a helmet, and it brimmed. The cuffs are perfect for those who wear a large watch, enough to fit over. They also have velco straps for tighter adjustment. All the seams are taped throughout.

All in all this is an exceptional jacket for extreme conditions. The only thing I think Black Diamond could improve this further would be the implementation of pit-zips.
