Approach
From the Iowa Gulch Trailhead cairn at the road: Descend down from the road into the meadow, following a faint climbers trail and cairns. Cross the meadow and begin ascending and traversing a talus slope via a climbers trail to the south towards Mt. Sheridan and a gully which heads east (left). The trail across the slope can be seen from the road. The trail heads up the gully on the left side with the north slope of Sheridan to the right. Beware of downed cables and old telegraph wires crossing the trail. Ascend the steep gully until reaching the saddle at 13,140.
Winter Note: There can be avalanche danger from the north side of Sheridan while in the gulch. Check conditions before using this as a winter route.
From the Fourmile Creek Trailhead: Follow the 4WD road until it ends at a well-defined trail. Follow the trail until it reaches the saddle at 13,140. Early season climbers will encounter an easy snow slope before reaching the saddle.
Route Description
Upon arrival at the saddle, go south towards Sheridan on a well-defined trail and cairns. Begin ascending a faint climbers trail through talus on the northeast slope. The trail will gradually fade as you near the summit. Upon arrival at the east end of the summit, a bivy shelter will greet you. Continue to the west where the summit cairn and another bivy shelter awaits. Descend the same route.
