Overview

Geographical structure: Eastern Alps > Kamnik Alps group > Krvavec group.

Kosutna is not located in the main ridge of Kamnik Alps group but in secondary ridge that comes from Grintovec and Kocna over the Kalski Greben in the middle of the Krvavec group from the north side. The Krvavec group is the small group on the south side of the main ridge of Kamnik Alps group and has many nice mountains with the highest mountain Kalski Greben. Then to the SE from Kalski Greben is Jermanov turn (1951m), Vrh Korena (1999m). From Vrh Korena go two ridges.

On ridge goes in the SW direction and over the airy ridge of Jez reaches the highest point of the skiing area Krvavec and the summit of Veliki Zvoh (1971m). From the Veliki Zvoh forward is the landscape a bit diffrent. Instead of the steep slopes and dwarf pine are now there long grassy slopes and nice meadows that are very popular for hiking in Summer time because in Winter time there is the skiing area Krvavec. On that slopes there are also some summits: Gradisce (1697m), Krvavec (1853m), Krizisce (1658m) and Kamniski vrh (1259m).

The second ridge from Vrh Korena goes in the east direction and reaches soon the summit of Kompotela (1989m) and before that ridge falls down in the valley of Kamniska Bistrica goes over the summit of Mokrica (1853m). From the summit of Kompotela goes also in the south direction another small ridge where is located the last important mountain in this area Kosutna (1974m).

This area is famous because of beautiful tour skiing in Winter conditions but here you will meet many hikers in snowless conditions because from all the summits is very nice view on the giants of Kamnik Alps group in the main ridge.

Kosutna is above the big valley that comes from the SW way and it is below the mountains: Veliki Zvoh, Vrh Korena, Kompotela and Kosutna. In this valley is located the meadow Planina Koren (1675m) that is the starting point for the two possibilities for reaching the summit of Kosutna. One possibility goes over the short west face where you climb with help of iron cable and you reach the upper plateau where the meadow Planina Kosutna (1778m) is located. This route is not marked but is good trodden and it is useful in snowless season.

The second possibility goes from the meadow Planina Koren towards through the valley to the saddle between Vrh Korena and Kompotela. Then you turn to the north side and over the grassy slopes and dwarf pine you reach the summit of Kosutna. This route is also very good for skiing! The upper part is often snowless because of wind but in the lower part specially in the valley you will enjoy in beautiful skiing.

Kosutna is on the north connected with Kompotela. On the west side falls the slopes over the small face in the beautiful valley where is the meadow Planina Koren. On the south side falls in upper part grassy slopes and in the lower part forest slopes at the end of the valley Korosica. On the east side falls the steep and wild slopes in the big valley Kamniska Bistrica.
