Inspired by ultra lightweight track shoes, the Superfly was created to blur the lines between rock climbing shoes and trail running footwear. Weighing in at a scant nine ounces each this shoe is all about SPEED! The collapsible heel makes for low volume packing and easy carry in small packs. The FriXion rubber is so sticky you¹ll find yourself leaving your climbing shoes behind more and more.

I bought this shoe with high hopes of finally finding a super-lightweight shoe for short speed-climbing adventures. In the store (Neptune Mountaineering), they felt great -- almost like I wasn't even wearing shoes. The soles seemed nice and sticky on their small climbing wall, and at $85, the price was right, so I bought them.

I immediately headed to the First Flatiron to try them out. As I ran up the trail from Chataqua, they felt great. Without losing a step, I transitioned from the trail to the Direct East Face (~10 pitches, 5.6). Everything was going well until about 300 ft up I looked at the soles and the circular dots on the tread were all stretching and "rolling". I cursed La Sportiva a few times and kept going. 1:45 later I finished my 4th lap on the Direct East Face and ran back to my car where I inspected the shoes more closely. Jeeez. They were trashed. The soles looked like they had been through a shredder. So, I immediately drove back to Neptune Mountaineering and showed them the damage. They agreed that it was unacceptable, and they took them back in exchange for some other shoes. I got the Kayland Spiders which I will try out later this evening (I had to pay the price difference, of course, but I'm very happy that Neptune took them back).

In summary, these shoes are essentially disposable. I wore them out in less than 2.5 hours. Despite their great "feel", I can't give them more than 1 star.
