The Replica is a tribute to Grivel's aesthetically beautiful ice axes of the past (manufactured using today's technology). It is a genuine ice axe and may be used as such; for snow climbs of moderate difficulty, trekking and general mountain travel. The shaft is made in the old style, from solid ash and because wood is a living material whose properties are not strictly controlled by Mother Nature it cannot be guaranteed to meet the standard norms recognized by the UIAA and CE. The head is forged from chromolly steel and polished by hand.

I don't own one of these but had a good look at it a while back and it is a lovely bit of work.

It is very finly finished and would look fine hanging on any wall in your house where this item belongs. The manufacture says a much.

Though not made in the traditional method of splicing the shaft and then inseritng the head and flat riviting. It is instead made in a modern style of a head cap rivited to the shaft.

Not 100% faitful to the original but to make it any other way would cost way to much.
