I got this jacket for a reallys good price (120 euros) as i am jobbing in a outdoor job. I used it for mountaineering, trekking (sometimes with a heavy bag), iceclimbing, skiing & snowboarding.
I like it, because its really lightweight & fits very good on my body. It packs away easily and also its realy very breathable.
One big minus: after 3-year use its now getting holes in the outer shell at the critical points (climbing harness, Backpack straps).
But good enough for that price. next time i buy something made of stronger material...

Marmot Liquid Steel Jacket
Pros: Gortex XCR material, good pocket placement, good cut
Cons: expensive, heavy for backpacking
I have had this jacket for more than 10 years now. I paid about $400 for it at the time. I bought it to be my all purpose shell.
I have worn this jacket year round since I bought it and it has been cross country and done everything from kayaking in the spring in MD, to backpacking the AT, to snowboarding in Lake Tahoe. I am 5'11'' 200lbs and I like that the cut is roomy enough to layer under and stay warm below freezing but not so loose that I am swimming in it alone. It does not ride up when reaching above your head and the sleeves are a good length too. The Goretex XCR is of good breathability, I rarely need to open the pit zips. the pockets are well placed and are accessible with a pack on.
While the three layer fabric has proven to be really durable, I primarily use this as my rain gear on backpacking trips. Because it spends most of it's time in my pack on those trips, I kind of wish it was lighter and more compressible. it is also bordering on being too warm for summer storms. $400 was a lot of money to pay for a shell, but having had it for this long I feel it was worth it.
Yes I would buy this jacket again and yes I would recommend it to a friend.

Untitled ReviewHas a pretty good hood that is easy to use, and is easy to adjust-- though despite what Marmot says the hood will not fit over a climbing helmet. The jacket needs mesh backed front pockets to help compensate for the relatively short pit zips.
Overall this is a great jacket- very comparable to Arc'teryx jackets.
