My dad has a D-560, which I believe is quite similar to the 550. I have used it on several small trips when I want some good people picture, when my maxxum 5 has b&w film in it. Although I am not too familiar with digital, I was quite surprised by this little camera. It has some creative control too. I was able to make a really cool picture in a snowcave with candles by turning the flash off. The effect was really cool.
I used to have a similar film version of this camera. The compact design is nice, and the contracting lens makes it very tough. It's a pretty good outdoor camera for the casual or not-so-casual photographer.

Untitled ReviewSome of the things that set this apart from the rest of the cameras out there include.
1) Being able to use AA batteries. I bought a set of rechargeables that last me a long time (5 trips at least) But if they run out I can go into any store anywhere and get a battery.
2) The camedia softwear that comes with the camera allows for rapid downloads and effective processing of pictures.
3) Durablity-It has been dropped no less than a dozen times and still shoots great pictures time and again.
