The ideal bivy sack provides you and your sleeping bag with protection from the elements, adds warmth to your night and keeps the bugs out. Well, our Hooped and Big Wall bivies do all this… and more. Made from breathable ToddTex, these bivys incorporate a wire rod that’s sewn directly into the hood of the sack—so there’s nothing to set up and no parts to lose. All seams have been factory seam taped for total waterproofness and both ends of the bag are "boxed" so they won’t cramp your toes or compress sleeping bag loft. The Big Wall Bivy is perfect for use on a portaledge or any time a full-strength tie-in point is a necessity. By using RF welded seams, this tie-in point is completely waterproof—meaning no water can sneak in to soak you and your sleeping bag. Both models are available in Standard and Long.

I have the Hooped Bivy which is almost the same thing as the Big Wall. I've used it in every season, wind, snow, POURING rain, and it's never failed me. I always stay dry. At 1.5 lbs it's a bit heavier than the REI Bivy I have, but much more impervious to water. I carry this when I'm not 90% sure I won't encounter any wet weather on my trip. the REI bivy doesn't get much use since I bought this. I don't have experience with other bivys but can reccomend this compared to the Minimalist. I can't imagine something lighter and this waterproof/breathable.

Also, I love the wire hoop, it works well in all but heavy wind to keep the bag up and less claustrophobic.

Bibler Big Wall Bivy
If I'm not taking my tent (a Stephensen's Warmlite) 2R then I make sure to take a bivy. This bivy bag has replaced my original (homemade) bivy I used for years. I like a little extra room in the bivy to store my pack and gear and this one (I purchased the Long version) provides just the right amount. Very durable, waterproof and packs small enough. I like the opening near my face instead of on the end like some cheaper brands. This is an excellent choice.
