Lizara

Overview

It's an interesting route with a keeped hut in the trailhead and for this reason is a popular climb but it's a little more confused than the normal route from Rigüelo (it's most evident).

Getting There

Road approach: Start from Huesca or Pamplona, in northern Spain. From any one of both towns, follow road N-240 towards the other one. At Puente la Reina (88 km away from Pamplona, or 72 km away from Huesca) you will have to turn north by road A176. This is the road running alongside the river Aragón Subordán, entering the Valley of Hecho. After 16 km, turn right once again to take road HU212 into the valley of Aragüés. This is narrow but good road taking you to the village of Aragüés del Puerto. 7 km after the village you will find the Restaurant "Los Corralones" (in a beautiful pine forest), and 3 km farther the parking of the Lizara Mountain Hut, at the base of Bisaurín.

Route Description

We begin in Lizara's hut walking following the signals of G.R. (red and white) in the grassy plains in direction to col of Bozo (South-East). We arrive to the col and we turn to left descending a little walking under the rocky walls of range of Bernera across some terraces in direction to the west col of our peak. We pass under the summit but we walk a little more to a point at NW of the peak. We turn to left (SE) and we climb across the ramp to enter to the upper plain. We walk now the plain to the summit.

Essential Gear

Crampons and ice-axe in early Spring because the snow remain in the access to col of Bozo and col west. In winter is not very advisable the climb because the traverse under Bernera have risk of avalanches.
