The road into Gsies / Casies Valley< does a loop at the end of the valley. The route starts at the uppermost (northernmost) end of this loop. Head out towards east on a road marked 47, 48. After a while (500m) you'll cross a bar. Another 400m and the road splits in two. The left branch takes you to Köfler Alm and would be the long detour to Hochstein.
The right road goes to Tscharmied Alm. Again after 400m the road branches. It doesn't really matter, which branch you take, both can lead to Hochstein but our experience has shown that the right one (again) which leads directly west at first is better to find. After some 300m and after a sharp bend in the road (which longe since has turned into a gravel one) the road ends. You have to follow a footpath steeply up the mountain through dens larch and fir forests.
After topping the timberline the going gets steep and rocky and you'll need your hands in a UIAA I (class 3) section. The summit of Hochstein is gained rather easily by a short ridge traverse.
