Huayna Fun Facts

This is the coolest and safest way to join the 6000m club.  Im not the president of the club, but to join, you just have to stand on the summit, nothing like the mile high club!  Ive climbed Huayna twice, both in 2014.  Its the most popular climb in Bolivia.  Everyone in La Paz is talking about it, especially on Sagarnago Street (and illampu).  Most companies will charge 1200 Bolivianos to climb for 2-3 days.  There are some cheaper companies but avoid them.  If you cant afford $200, then dont climb.  Also, go with the 3 days option for sure!  For 2 reasons:  First, to acclimatize better, and second, to practice your skills on the glacier.  There is a hut with beds at both low and high camp.  Bring playing cards and other random games!  You will make new friends and have lots of free time.  Bring headphones because everyone SNORES and you are sleeping with at least 10 other randoms.  It's a 2 hour drive to the basecamp, where you will chill out and acclimatize.  From there, its 3-4 hours to high camp.  From high camp, u will get up really early, and leave around 2am to hike to the summit.  If the trail takes you across the summit ridge, you will have a vertigo view with 2000 feet straight down on the right and 500 feet on the left.  The summit is tiny, so only a dozen people max can stand on it.  Welcome to the club!
