Collado del Cabrón (1.303 m)

It's the most southern pass in La Pedriza Posterior and can be used for approaching to some climbing crags as: Cancho de los Muertos (1.362 m) and El Dante (1.339 m) -to the South-; and El Pajarito, La Vela, El Galisol (1.533 m) and La Campana -to the North-.

Route Description

Take a very visible path that leads off to the left of the one you are on. This trail climbs in the pinewood doing lots of short zig-zags, until it reaches Collado del Cabrón (1.303 m), where there are excellent panoramic views over La Pedriza. 1h 15 min.

Descent

The most beautiful descent route is taking PR C1 that goes Swards surrounding the Points 1.347, 1.342 m, Cancho de los Muertos (1.362 m) and then descend steeply (leaving Point 1.263 m ot the left) SWwards to the Point 1.187 m. Leave that point to the left and continue SWwards (descending 140 m), then turn left (SE) to the Point 1.088 m, passing it to the right. Surround some houses on the right side and cross the little wooden bridge over river Manzanares to reach Canto Cochino (1.025 m). 1h 45 min.

It's possible to descend by another wide and very visible path, wich zig-zags down the western creek of the pass. Further down it goes Wwards through a pinewood, surround a flat where there is a vivero and cross a wooden bridge over river Manzanares. Finally take the road to the left (S) and follow it to Canto Cochino. 1h 40 min.

Essential Gear

Crampons and ice axe could be necessary a few times, only after the biggest snowstorms of the winter. Wear warm clothes in that season. Be careful in summer because of the hot, some days could be too much torrid, so wear a cap and carry at least 1 liter of water. La Pedriza has a complicated relief so it's not difficult to get lost without a map. Also take a compass and altimeter.
