Overview
This is the shortest route to climb El Yelmo, but it's not always easy to follow, specially in the first section after the parking.Getting There
To approach to Canto Cochino, trailhead of the route, you must see the main page.Time: 2h 30'

South faceWe'll begin in the great parking of Canto Cochino (1020m), descending to cross the river Manzanares. After the bridge, we'll leave the path what goes in left side, turning to right to reach a forest track where's a signal with the indication to refugio Giner de los Ríos to left side. We don't turn to this route to refuge and we'll attack the hard ramp, with path, in fron of us. We'll walk a lot of zig-zag, with a lot of vegetation, generaly in left direction, to reach finally a great path, it's the path of Carbonerass) at 1251m, at North of Mirador del Tranco (1284m). The path is very nice in this area enjoying of the peaks and walls of granite of La Pedriza. After an easy walk-up we'll reach a great plain of grass in the little col de la Encina (1300m) . We'll search in left side the cairns of stones, and some paint in the rocks, to get te path to N.E. leaving in left side the path to Col de la Pedriza (1331m) and the Gran Cañada.
The path is narrow but evident and finally, with many attention to cairns, we'll arrive to the wide Pradera del Yelmo (1590m) with a marvelous view of South face of our peak, a place where you'll see generally many rock-climbers in its walls. We'll follow to right side, searching a little path, bordering the peak Rompeolas (summit S.E. of El Yelmo) to the North. We'll entry to the normal access in a point at N.E. of the peak where the ridge is divided by great blocks of granite with the summit over it. Walking over the blocks we'll reach the bottom of the summit in a shoulder under the gap. It's a narrow chimney (II) of 15 meters to summit (1719m).

No es...Cañada Real sino Gran Cañada, míralo en tus mapas o aquí: http://www.google.es/search?hl=es&q=gran+ca%C3%B1ada+pedriza+yelmo&btnG=Buscar&meta=cr%3DcountryES Por cierto, yo pondría más referencias de altitud en la ruta, si no las tienes y me dejas te las voy indicando

Re: No es...gracias por la corrección, ya voy a ir poniendo las alturas con el mapa, es que no lo tenía a mano cuando la escribí en word fuera de casa. Además tengo la ruta grabada de mi gps con las alturas.

Re: No es...Lo que está medido a 1251 m es un collado sin nombre que hay antes del Mirador el Tranco (1296 m), risco situado al SO de la Gran Cañada, que comienza un poco más adelante. Podrías quitar esta cita: "finally the great path of Cañada Real (sheep track)" y poner que a unos 1300 m, en una explanada herbosa y cruce de caminos, donde comienza la Gran Cañada hacia el este (si es que no empieza en el Collado de la Pedriza), hay que tomar el Camino de las Carboneras hasta la Pradera del Yelmo. Luego se bordea El Yelmo y El Rompeolas (1656 m) por el este y se accede a una explanada menor a 1652 m. De ahí ya se ataca cumbre metiéndonos por la grieta de la arista NE. El mismo Domingo Pliego en su libro La Pedriza del Manzanares dice de la Gran Cañada que es una "alargada pradera en dirección Oeste-Este de más de 1 Km de longitud". No dice en ningún momento que por ahí pase una cañada real ni he encontrado bibliografía donde se asegure.

Re: No es...o.k. ya lo revisaré aunque me parece ya complicarse la vida pa una simple ruta... vamos que lo que interesa es saber por donde pasar y vale, si yo en realidad escribo las webs con mi pésimo inglés pa que se enteren donde está, por donde se sube y poner las fotos... más aún me encantaría sólo poner las fotos y dejarme de tener que escribir nada... gracias de todas formas por tu interés
