Approach

Follow the Mitchell Lake trail for 2 miles past many high alpine lakes. Continue on with amazing views of Mount Toll and Mount Audubon until you reach Blue Lake at 11,300 ft. At this point Paiute Peak finally shows its 13,088 ft. summit. Next, turn right and follow the fading trail around to the right and up over Blue Lake. The trail fades away into a rather large boulder field at this point. Your next landmark is the upper unnamed lake at 11,833 ft.; continue bouldering until you reach this lake.

Route Description

At this point look for the long, steep scree ramp that leads to the south ridge. There might be a slight trail of sorts but I lost any remnants of a trail due to the snow. This scree slope is pretty steep but only class 2. Gain the ridge and enjoy the class 2+ scramble up to its talus-covered summit.

Essential Gear

Fast moving storms are the norm for this area so be prepared.

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
