Overview:

The Wedge Brook Trail is a short, easy path that leads to the notch between Upper and Lower Wolf Jaws. Along the first part of the trail, the Wedge Brook Cascades provide audible and visual inspiration. Further on are some of the few adequate camping areas near the East branch of the Ausable River. The trails and land area around the river are on the property of the Adirondack Mountain Reserve/Ausable Club. It is important to follow the guidelines on this private land to ensure these great trails will always be available for everyone to enjoy. For info on these guidelines, see the red tape section of the St Huberts Parking Area/Trailhead page.

Getting There:

The Wedge Brook Trail can be reached by using the St Huberts Parking Area/Trailhead to the West River Trail. By using these trails, the Wolf Jaws can be reached in a relatively short time. In fact there is no shorter way to either of these summits by way of any trail combination.

The Trail:

From the West River Trail/Wedge Brook Trail junction, head east on easy terrain. As the trail climbs gradually, the Wedge Brook Cascades come into view at 200 yards.

Leaving the brook, the trail continues easily onward.

leaving the property of the Adirondack Mountain Reserve/Ausable club (signed), are very good camping areas on the right with several small firepits at 1.2 Mi.
This camping spot is unique to the area as it is not too far from the trailhead or the East Branch of the Ausable river. Most of the other trails surrounding the AMR/AC lands do not have such accomodating features for camping.

Soon the trail steepens somewhat and some good views back towards the East Branch of the Ausable River can be seen as well as great views of Upper Wolf Jaw.

At 1.6 Mi. there is a split in the trail. Right leads to Lower Wolf Jaw (.5 Mi. 700 ft. gain) Left leads to Upper Wolf Jaw (1.7 Mi. 710 Ft. gain)
This is the junction with the Great Range Trail and marks the end of the Wedge Brook Trail.

From here the Climb to each of these mountains is very steep with some class 2+ scrambling that can be tricky especially with a heavy pack or when wet (which is very often).

Mileage & elevation gain :

From St Huberts Parking Area/Trailhead (one Way)

-To Lower Wolf Jaw: 4.8 Mi. 2925 gain

-To Upper Wolf Jaw: 5.5 Mi. 2935 gain
