Approach
Drive west from Colville, Washington past Kettle Falls on Highway 395, over the Columbia River. Turn left (west) on Highway 20, and go 18.4 miles to Albion Hill Road #2030. Turn right (north) on Road #2030 and drive on the good gravel road 3.3 miles, and the signed Wapaloosie Mountain Trailhead is on your left.
Route Description
This 2.6-mile-long trail is in great condition, and provides great southerly views of the Sherman Pass area. It doesn’t reach all the way to the summit, but a quick off-trail hike through the open forest is easy to handle. See the topo map on the “Getting There” section of this post.
It takes 2 hours to hike to the summit, and 1-1/4 hours to descend. No water is available (unless you want to melt snow early in the season).
If you start out early and want to make a loop hike, it’s possible to drop back down to the Kettle Crest Trail #13, head northwards to Scar Mountain (7,046 feet) and Copper Butte (7,140 feet), then descend back down to Albion Hill Road via the Old Stage Road Trail #75.
Essential Gear
Bring water, because the mountain snow melts by the end of May each spring.
