Route Description

This is the winter route because of the snow on the road near the top. It's very important that you scout this trail in the summer months before you attempt this route in the Winter over a snow covered trail. No time to waste while looking for the trail. You'll start out on an old road for about a tenth of a mile being carefull not to pass the unmarked trailhead off to the right. Follow this well maintained trail through the forest up several long switchbacks till you start up the ridge where you will come to a couple of great viewing spots. After about 3.5 miles you'll come to Mary Dunham Springs area. It's a clear marshy area. Follow the trail accross the marsh through the forest and onto an old road. You'll have to hunt for the trail on the other side of the road. It's up to the right of where you come out of the forest. Last time I was up there the sign was laying on its side. From here you'll climb a quick 400 feet onto a ridge, past Needle Rock and right below the summit of Dome Rock. Continue for about another 1/4 mile. You'll come to the trail to the summit on your right for the last 1/2 mile ascent.

Essential Gear

This is a non technical climb. Good boots, Camara, GPS, Map, & Compass. Snowshoes w/ a good knowledge of the trail location.
