Nice day on a desert mountain

I'd been wanting to get Telescope Peak for several years and so these pics are from getting to that peak and summitting it on Sep 2nd. Kind of an early birthday present since I'll be turning 70 in a couple weeks. It was a 14 mile day and I went up the service road over Rodgers Peak, then to Telescope and back over Bennett and out the trail that contours around Rodgers Peak. It was a great day weather wise, not too hot even though it was 117 down in Death Valley (Telescope is the highpoint of the park) and yet I didn't have to share the mountain with anyone, I had it all to myself. My wife and I camped at
Mahogany Flats where she waited for me while I went up and down the mountain.
Round trip time was 7 1/2 hours (not including a half hour on the summit)

Very nice mountain

It's a gorgeous area with amazing views. How was the road from the Kilns to Mahagony Flat? Cheers.

Re: Very nice mountain

They had graded the road recently (it seemed) and it wasn't as bad as I had heard. However, I'm driving a high clearance truck but I didn't have to shift it to 4WD.

Re: Very nice mountain

Thanks, that's nice. The last time I was there the road after the kilns was in really bad shape. Cheers.

Re: California?

Hi Eric, yes, I had to travel a bit to get this one. However, work starts this week so I had to get it in under the wire. My mom lives in LV so we stopped and spent some time with her before heading to Death Valley. Thanks as always and we have to get out soon. Today would've been nice but I can't play all the time.

Re: California?

Tell me about it. I had to reshingle my roof this weekend. I sold the house. Moving to Layton this week while we start to build. But, I'm planning on a peak the last weekend of the month. Not sure which one though. Maybe Graham out by Wendover.

Nice pics Dean

You had a pretty clear day. I did it in May '06 on a very windy but super clear day. I was off from Mohogany Flat just before sunrise and the 1st to summit. Within minutes others started showing up, maybe 30 or so over the next hour. You could see all the way from White Mtn. Peak east of Bishop all the way to San Gorgonio. It's one of the desert classics. Glad you could get to it.

Re: Nice pics Dean

You had 30 people up there, what a contrast compared to the zero that I had. It was a great hike and one that I had wanted to do for some time. I wish I had of had time for Wildrose Peak while I was there but I had to get home. That is a great area. Thanks for your comments.
