Approach

Start point is Prétairié

In the town Abondance, cross the river Dranse, cross the market place, turn right and follow the little road direction the cable car of Essert. At Plan de Charmy, turn to the right and follow the water stream "Ruisseau de l'Edian". Park at the end of the road at Prétairié.

Route Description

From Prétairié, follow up the trail. In the first bend take the path on the left and climb steep through the luxuriant alpine vegetation (with rare Martagon lillies)
Under the rock wall of Le Vetu, you reach the path coming from "Les Serranants", the alpine pasture you can see on the right.
Turn left : the path becomes steeper and crosses a ravine. You see soon on your left the water falls of Tavaneuse (nice ice-climbs in winter) and you reach the Chalets of Tavaneuse. From here you see for the first time the summit of the Roc over the comb. Cross the comb and climb on the bolt of the Tavaneuse Lake. Nice atmosphere and contrasts between the flovered meadows and the severe escarpments of the "Pirons"
Leave the lake on the right and climb on the Tavaneuse collar (1997 m). At the collar you discover the Aulps Valley on the other side. You follow the crest on your right and you reach easily the summit of the Roc de Tavaneuse.

I advice to walk down the Savolaire route (see routes)

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
