Approach
Start point is Breitenbach in the Munster Valley.
To Munster valley :
- access by train on the railway Colmar-Metzeral, station Breitenbach.
- access by road from Colmar on D 417 to Munster, D 10 to Breitenbach. Turn left, cross the river Fecht and you find a car park at the entrance of the village.
Route Description
Way up
Follow the red disc marks to the German military cemetery (first world war).Higher, you can see Oberbreitenbach on the left below. You reach the Ilienkopf collar and the path coming from Metzeral (what a nice view). Follow this path (red cross marks) to the houses of Brobachruecken. Don't continue to Rothenbrunnen but turn left to Steinberg. Follow the yellow discs and the ridge over Grothkopf, Steinberg and Kegelritz (extensive panorama to Hohneck, and nice granitic rock groups on the ridge). Cross a little collar and the tourist road. Climb the evident path to the summit.
Way down
From the summit follow the red cross marks in NE direction. You cross a trail and arrive to the farm-inn of Kahler Wasen. Follow then the blue discs to the mountain hamlets Schweng, Christlesguth, Stemlisberg. Follow the same marks down to Breitenbach.
