Approach

For approach to Quebrada Ishinca see the main page.

Route Description

From the Quebrada Ishinca you must to cross the river in the south side of Quebrada (the little bridge is lightly towards the west from the refuge). For a path in the mountain you must walk little by little to search the exit of the Quebrada to the right side (signal Ishinca / Ranrapalca). The path follow in the hillside over the Lake Ishinca (generally if you begin the route in the night you don't see the lake but you hear the sound of the water) and continue to the south to reach the zone of the great pieces of granitic rocks ("morrena") near of the glacier (attention to the cairns). In the glacier you must avoid the crevasses (breaks) and you follow the evident way to reach the wide ridge SW under the impressive Ranrapalca. This col it's a good place to rest in the descent. The wide ridge is easy from here but in the last part you can to walk in 50ยบ in 4-5 meters near of the summit with one crevasse (break) under the last meters.

The return is for the same route. This is the route of descent for the other routes as well.

Essential Gear
