Getting There

Cathedral Spires from Summit

Travel South on US 285 - west bound (Hampden Av. within city limits) to the small town of Pine Junction.

Turn south on County Road 126, pass through Pine and Buffalo Creek.

Kelsey Campground is 17 miles down the road from Pine Junction on your right side.

Campground is charging USD 4.00 for day use parking - there are a couple spots along the road where you can park, too.

Campground is closed in winter - I guess no one will care if you park along the access road

Route Description

On the ridge
South Face from Kelsey Campground

The South Ridge of Little Scraggy Peak raises right above the Kelsey Campground - with distinctive rock towers at both of its edges.

Scramble up the South Ridge- depending on route selection you can keep it to an easy II - hike or turn it into a Class V climb.

The ridge will eventually almost level out. Hike for another 0.5 miles through forest along the "crest" of the ridge.

The view of the main summit is for most the time concealed by trees - you won't see it until you have almost reached it.

Gaining the summit is an easy scramble up the summit rocks - great panorma views wait for you!
