Approach

If you want to ascend this route, it would be best to approach via the Twin Lakes trailhead as described on the peak page. Once started up Thompson Canyon, gain the pass at the confluence of the North Ridge of Ehrnbeck Peak and the South Ridge of Hawksbeak.

Route Description

From this pass, access the ridge and continue upward. You will find breathtaking exposure to the southwest, and fun 3rd class scrambling along the crest of the ridge. It is in your best interest to stay as close to the ridgeline to avoid the numerous Limber Pines and to enjoy some quality scrambling. You will pass 2 major chutes (very steep, loose, and scary-looking), and the ridge curves around the entrance to one of these chutes. A bit more scrambling over large blocks deposits you upon the summit block.

Essential Gear

Sticky-rubber approach shoes are helpful but not essential, otherwise just your standard dayhike rig.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
