South Buttress 2017

An amazing climb on great, solid rock with plenty of solid pitches that would prove to be worthwhile challenge for our group doing our first 5.8. We collected the gear we felt we needed for the wide cracks. We had three pieces over 4 inches and used them all several times. 10 pitches according to Guidebook "Washington Pass Climbing" by Ian Nicholson, pitch names like "Wavy Crack, Bear Hug, Aretes plus pitch 1-5.8 "real moves" made it a challenge we survived. Four of us swapping leads, leaving gear for second team when needed kept progress at a moderate pace, but we did it! Rapped the South Arete, a route we know well. A great day at Washington Pass, despite the heavy smoke from more fires in Washington that we care to think about. Pictures that follow tell the real story...
