Selva de Oza-Normal

Approach

Trailhead: Selva de Oza, near the camping of Ramiro el Monje.

Route Description

Slope: 1260 metres.
Time: 3h 30 min-4h to the summit. Total: 6-7h.

From the camping of Ramiro el Monje there goes out a path indicated with a signal that enters to a beautiful forest of beeches, firs and pines.
This short itinerary among the trees it's a little confuse (some cairns and paint in the tree) and if you don't know the area it's better follow the track bordering the camp. In both cases we reach a curve in the forest track with a signal of wood and some cairns to leave the track in this point across the hillside of the forest (the track go to right side but not for our mountain).
The way is very good and is put up signs with cairns up to going out of the forest to 1600 meters. We are in a plain of herb in which we will go towards little Acher's mountain hut where also there is a fountain in which we can supply ourselves of water (ice and not water in winter).
We leave the hut to left side bordering a spun and a path what going to right (for us it's better the access in left side, the path go directly to col of Achar de los Hombres).
Near 2000 meters we will find the only access to the fortress of the castle, a pronounced slope that takes us to the easy last channel (hard in winter) in the south face. The south ramp it's long with a path in zig-zag among the stones to reach the channel of entry in the castle.
Before us one has revealed finally the mystery of the castle and we penetrate in the curious geological phenomenon of the plateau inside the syncline. The top is now evident in the other side and we will reach it bordering on the interior to the right. The path go under the south summit (2347m, interesting complementary climb) and it's the only stepcrossing in north face (ice in winter, excelent path in summer). After the south summit we turn to reach the summit north (2390m).

For the peakbaggers, the only summit with name that rest in the castel it's the Punta de Oza (2202m) just in the end of wall north. If you want the climb you follow from the north summit descending across an easy hillside walking into the castle near of the ridge to reach the final point. From his summit the return to the entry it's evident walking the first part of the ridge of south wall making a full itinerary of all the walls of the castle.
