Overview

The Saykogel itself is an unimpressive peak in the Ötztaler Alps, framed by the Hauslabkogel and the Kreuzspitze and opposite to the Marzellenkamm. Looking from the Martin-Busch Hütte south-east towards the towering Similaun, the Saykogel ducks in front of the Hauslabkogel and the Sayferner.
However, the ascension to the peak from the east is a nice panoramic ridge walk amidst the Hochjochferner in the south and the Kreuzferner in the north offering a superb view of the Fineilspitze.

Getting there

Suitable starting points are the Hochjoch-Hospiz (eastern ascension) or the Martin-Busch Hütte (western ascension).

Routes

1. Eastern Ridge:

  • from the Hochjoch-Hospiz 3-4 hours; enjoyable walk

2. Western Ridge:
  • from the Martin-Busch Hütte 2-3 hours; enjoyable walk

3. Northern Ridge:

The traversal of the Saykogel is highly recommended.
