Route Description

How to access the lake is described in ‘getting there’ section on main page. If you don’t have a car closest walk up to the lake is from Peulje village, 18km away or some 3.30h. There you should leave a bus from Bihac or Livno. Near the motel at the lake is parking space.

From the motel path leads toward shore of the lake and passes by its eastern shore. Path ascends steeply above the lake, some 30 minutes till the pass on the ridge. Southern side of the mountain comes into view, expands over a grassy plateau towards Livanjsko Polje field and Dinara mountain behind, with its highest peak Troglav (1913m). Here path turns right onto some macadam road which could only be used by tractors and look more like a wider path. In few sharp bends ascends steeply, over grassy slopes, some 20 minutes. After the ascent is flat section till it reaches the foothills of main peak. On the spot where you get closest to the ridge, which is just few meters above, don’t miss the opportunity to climb on it. You get beautiful view on the lake and further towards north. When macadam ends it is 15 more minutes to the summit of Veliki Sator (1872m). Path is ascending steeply and directly towards it. From the lake to the summit takes around 1.30h.

==========================================================

You can also climb 4 of 5 main peaks of Sator (without Mali Sator, which is out of hand) in round trip, which lasts some 4-5 hours. Terrain is not marked but you are out of the forest and orientation is easy. Views are beautiful all the time.

At the pass on the ridge (30 mins above the lake) turn left. Just follow the edge of the cliffs and climb by it. Lake is just under your feet. It takes little bit less than hour till the first peak, which has highest cliffs. Descent through rocky couloir to the grassy pass between the next peak and climb it. This peak looks to be the second highest on the mountain, maybe little bit lower than the main peak, which is now farthest away (40mins). Get back to the pass. If you want to avoid climbing back on the previous peak you can go left, around it. Terrain is mostly grassy with some rock. You’ll need around an hour to get back to the pass where you started. From here use the path towards main peak, described above.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
