Salbitschijen South Ridge - Very big and pointy!

Warm greetings Summit Posters from sunny Bristol in the UK!

If you are looking for a rock climbers paradise then here is a short video from a recent trip to the premier alpine rock destination of the Salbitschijen, near Göschenen in Central Switzerland.

The Salbitschijen is renowned for it's immaculate granite and 3 looooong classic ridges, namely the Ostgrat, Sudgrat + Westgrat and my buddies and I were lucky enough to climb the super-classic 16 pitch 550M South Ridge on a great day of weather. The Sudgrat is often described as one of the best and most beautiful climbs of its type + grade in the whole of the Alps, a description I now totally agree with!

However for those of you who like to clip bolts there are even numerous fully equipped routes of all grades + lengths on the mountain and the surrounding Klettergarten's....

Anyway the entertainment was duly recorded so for anyone interested in viewing a short HD video featuring the flora + fauna around the Salbithütte, time lapses, views to the outrageous Westgrat, big towers, super-exposed ridges + giddyfying drops, culminating in the photogenic Gipfelnadel summit pinnacle then please use the following link:

All constructive feedback welcome, please feel free to share and hopefully it will inspire a few folks to visit this amazing region in Switzerland and climb one of those classic ridges!

Cheers and happy climbing :-)

Dave

Thanks.

Thanks for posting this vid. My wife and I climbed this back in 2002, didn't have digital camera or video. Now we can share your video with others so they can see what we experienced. A well made vid, showing all the best parts of the climb.

Heya darin and a huge thanks for taking the time to post some kind words. I've just read your very amusing trip report of 2002 and it sounds as if your good lady and yourself had some fun and games on the route... ;-)
Please feel free to share my wee video to anyone who may be interested and I'm glad you enjoyed the film + it hopefully evoked some happy memories! :-)
