HAPPY SWISS NATIONAL DAY!!! Well we didn't know that either until we arrived in Interlaken on Friday. Sunday morning we woke up a little earlier and made Grindelwald and the lift around 10:30. Got off the gondola at First and headed up the trail towards the Bachalpsee and the Berghotel Faulhorn. It took us about 30 minutes from First to arrive at the Bachalpsee, beautiful views across the lake to the Wetterhorn across the valley. Kinda breezy so couldn't get any of those super reflection pictures. From Bachalpsee we followed the trail towards Hireleni. The trail signs don't have Reeti or Simelihorn on them so just look up towards the mountain from Bachalpsee and on the left you can see the high route cut back across to the left and the ridge. From the saddle with Hireleni we followed the trail up the southeast ridge. Very nice ridge walk. We made the summit around 13:30 in beautiful weather, you could see everything from the Wetterhorn, Schilthorn and down towards Thun and the northern end of Thunsee. Didn't really have time to jump across to Simelihorn and do the traverse. From the summit we went down the same route and at the Hireleni saddle jumped straight down the meadows towards Bachlager. Fun jog through the pastures! From Bachlager we took the trail across to the Waldspitz restaurant and then down a super steep trail to Bort gondola station. We made the Bort station around 16:00 or so...dropping the 1200m from Reeti to Bort in a little less than two hours. Spent the night celebrating Swiss National Day in Interlaken!
