Approach

This trail starts off by gradually climbing while entering the woods. After just over a mile of hiking, the trail to Granite Mountain breaks off to the right. From this point, 3 more miles and the intersection with the Mt. Defiance trail #1009 is reached on the left at about 4,100 feet.

Route Description

Follow the trail down and past several spur trails that lead to Island Lake, Rainbow Lake and Blazer Lake before reaching the Mason Lake trail on the left. Continue past this junction and up the trail, steeply at times, to the open slope. Cross the slope to the point where the trail rounds the mountain at the southwest ridge. Follow the trail uphill to the right another 300 feet or so to the summit. Approximately 4 miles from the Pratt Lake junction.

Essential Gear

No technical gear is needed from July to October.
