Vor Tec

Piece of crap! It's impossible to change the batteries. I've broken one lamp while taking the batteries out. And the 4 batteries are contained in two separate compartments. Twice the pain to change the batteries.



I've lost power in pretty mild cold, say 30 degrees. Also, I had some serious battery corrosion ruin one light, though I can't prove this was the fault of the light. I find a light with 4 AA's too heavy for my forehead.



At least it's cheap!

Do I have to award a star?

These are the absolute worst headlamps available, I'd rather use my cell phone light to guide me up the mountain. These are good headlamps to use to take out the garbage, or find your way around the house when the power goes out. Not reliable, and the power is low. Enough?

Unlike the previous reviewers, I actually like my Vor Tec. Yes, they're quite bulky and heavy compare to the new LED headlamps. But the Vor Tec was around before the days of LED. They are designed more for light output rather than weight, and so far, I haven't seeing another headlamp (but keep in mind that I haven't seen all the headlamps yet) with the same amount of light output as the Vor Tec.



When I only need a headlamp for reading or doing chores around camp, I take my Aurora. But if I need something bright for route finding in the dark, I bring the Vor Tec. I use rechargeable Ni-MH batteries with it, and since I put in a set of fresh batteries before each trip, they are amazingly bright. They are totally waterproof too, I've taken them freediving to depths of 60 feet.



I've had my Vor Tec for 4 years, and I still like them. These days there may be lighter and brighter headlamps, but until my Vor Tec totally dies on me, I won't go out and buy another headlamp (except the Auroa, of course).
