To achieve the extreme cold weather capability of the Snowy Owl at less weight, the second (inside) zipper is eliminated. The hood and shoulder is scaled back, but still retain the complex contour shape that keeps full loft around the head and creates a breathing tunnel. At only 4 lbs 4 oz, the Snow Goose is lighter than other -40° F bags. We accomplish this by avoiding gimmicks and extras that look good on paper but add nothing to performance. We put in 750+ down fill and use vertical wall baffles to keep it in the right place. If wind protection is less important to you than minimizing weight, you can custom order the Snow Goose with a 1.1 ounce ripstop nylon shell instead of PTFE-Lite and save four more ounces. For a narrower cut in a -40° F bag, the Ptarmigan with six ounces of overfill is the perfect choice.
