Ptarmigan
Stuffed full for deep cold, the Ptarmigan is our slimmer rendition of a -25° F expedition bag. The inside girth in still a comfortable 60 inches, perfect for those without a big build or for people intent on packing as light as possible. The narrower cut makes it 4 oz lighter than the Peregrine. Why offer two versions? We believe that the inside girth of the bag should match its occupant. Too much space inside the bag creates more air your body must keep warm and represents unnecessary weight for you to carry. Too little space can squeeze you against the outer shell and can become confining on long trips. A very adaptable bag, the Ptarmigan can accept up to 6 ounces of overfill to extend its temperature rating, making it the lightest -40° F bag on the market.

While bulkier then the Tern. This bag is really warm. I purchased this for one of my clients and he found it warmer than his North face. The only complaint he had was the issue of getting it back in the Stuff sack supplied with the bag. Cracked fingers at altitude make this an issue. This can be remidied this with just using a bigger stuff sac. Excellent quality bag with the addition of loft.

The bag itself is wonderful. Mine had two ounces of overfill, which pushed it's rating to -30. I can personally vouch for it's warmth to -23, and a more comfortable sleeping bag I have not found. Light as hell, also very packable.

I too ditched the provided stuff sack, and adopted an advanced hydroseal in it's place.

The only issues I had were from the company itself. They ran long overdue with my bag, actually kept me waiting more than a month past my due date. When I got the bag it had an unfinished seam, so I had to send it back and wait for the repair. Finally, after all that was resolved, I got the bag, and it turned out to be a great one. I'll tell you though, I was nervous for a while.
