The R-1's were listed as insulated pants, but for me these R-5 seem rather like long undwear- no pockets. Compressible and fast-wicking unrestrictive base layer.

You can ski, bike or run in these fast-forward, thermal, base-layer tights. They stretch, wick, and have flat seams for comfort. Contoured fit

I got these on sale 1/2 price or $25 and they are really quite warm for their weight. They seem a bit more wind resistant than other long underwear. There are no pockets. There is little point in wearing anything heavier in an Ohio winter. It did get down to around 10 F and I put some fleece pants over these and felt very comfortable. I find myself wearing these a lot. Full price would have been a stretch.
