MEC’s Brio 60 has many of the features found in top-of-the-line name brand packs, at an excellent price. This top-loading, multi-day pack has a full-length side zipper for quick access, as well as an extendable lid that converts to a waist pack for day trips.

* Top-loading expedition pack with full-length #10 YKK side zipper for easy access to contents.

* 250g, 420-denier ripstop nylon pack fabric is reinforced with a durable 370g, 1000-denier nylon bottom.

* Adjustable Velcro® ladder system for adjusting shoulder harness fit.

* Shoulder straps and fully padded backpad are covered with 3D mesh to keep you cool.

* Fully padded hipbelt.

* Pack lid features both an internal and external pocket and an internal key clip.

* External RAP (Random Access Pocket) behind the shockcorded crampon patch keeps frequently needed items accessible without compromising the pack’s streamlined, anti-snag profile.

* Shockcord system on top of the Rapid Access Pocket secures additional loads.

* Internal side wands transfer pack load to the belt.

* Dual mesh side pockets.

* Three compression straps per side.

So you want a bomber, comfortable full featured pack that will last for ever and cost peanuts. Here's your pack.

The Brio has most of the features of top of the line packs like the Arcteryx Bora at less than a third of the price. It is at least as well constructed and very comfortable.

Many of the added features on other packs are really not useful and add bulk anyway. The purpose of the pack is to put your stuff on your back so you can carry it. I don't want to carry a fancy pack, it's the stuff in it I care about!

This pack acknowledges the usefulness of easy access pockets, a removable top, crampon hmesh, axe loops, fully adjustable fit, etc. without adding a bunch of crap you don't need, costs you more and bulks you out.

Only tiny caveat - no internal hydration system pocket. No big deal.

This pack is everything a backpack needs to be. Not just for the price conscious, this is a smart choice.

Ok
With this bag you get more than you pay for. For a third of the price of similar bags you get a solid bag. The Brio is bomber, cavernous and cheap. The extension collar is huge so you can absolutely stuff it with things. They are well made with tough materials.

Now the cons... It is heavy. It doesn't carry that well. Loads tend to move around a lot. Lumbar pack from top pouch thing is dumb (IMO). Front compartment is unnecessary. Side zip entry into bag is unnecessary.
