Eiger

The only shoe for me at this point. I wear them everywhere. They are not goretex, or thinsulated, so they are lighter then the Nepal Extreme, and rated for summer mountaineering only. I have used them this whole summer and winter in the cascades and have not had a problem. Pair them with the OR X-gaiters and you'll stay warm for sure. They are very comfortable, and never problematic. I also wore them on a 20 mile traverse recently that gained 4000 feet and lost 7000 feet in a day - no sore dogs here!

I've had my Eigers for more than a year now, and I love them. These were my first leather mountaineering boots, after having a trusty pair of Lowa Denalis for many seasons. I live in the Bay Area and broke these boots in by taking several easy hikes in Marin- they never got too hot for me. I've been in my Eigers on several snow/ice ascents in the Sierras and on Shasta- with no problems to report. Fine for the approach, fine for the steeps, and fine unloosened when kicking back in camp. I think this boot can do it all in the Sierras from Spring through Fall, with the exception of technical ice. I'm a 45.5 and they work well with my Grivel G-12's. My pair shows no signs of excessive wear and no leaks, even after a bunch of scrambles on talus and other crap. If LaSportivas fit your foot shape, I think you'll be quite pleased. I'm surprised some of the reviewers have had poor experience with their Eigers.
