Duo

I use this headlamp for mountaineering and spelunking. In my opinion it is the best spelunking headlamp out there with it's ability to illuminate big caverns at the flick of a switch. I use the halogen less in the mountains, but it is still very usefull at camp. The 4 AA batteries don't last that long when the halogen is on, so be careful. I have 8 rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries that I use specifically with this headlamp. Lithium Ion batteries perform much better in the cold than Energizers or Duracells. I can get about 9 hours and 2 hours from E&D and 20 hours and 5 hours from the Lithiums.



The regular bulb is rated to illuminate to 20 meters and the halogen to 100 meters, making this a very versatile product.

A very well built headlamp with a watertight hermetically sealed battery housing. This headlamp has a locking feature that prevents it from turning on inside of your pack. The halogen bulb performs just like other halogens I've used, but I like having an LED that I can switch over to when I'm in camp.



The unit is a tad heavy for a trip where weight is at a premium, but otherwise this is the best headlamp I have ever used. Two thumbs up!!!

The model I bought was the Duo 3 LED and it would get
5 stars except for one thing. The headlamp is does not
swivel. For trail hiking at night, I really like to be able to
keep my head straight and have the light focused on
on the ground in front of my feet. I couldn't do that
with this lamp, I had to keep my head bend more than is comfortable. For a four AA lamp, the weight is reasonable.

Thanks to the next reviewer, I learned the headlamp does
indeed swivel. The mechanism is hidden, boy do I feel
stupid. I just looked at it, didn't see any obvious hinge
and assumed it didn't swivel.... DOH!

Not a bad headlight, though I had a few problems with an older gen one konking out on me. Solid performance, good design, but a bit pricey.

Oh, and on a side note, the headlamp DOES, in fact, swivel. I didn't even realize until sometime after I had it, because it's very stiff and clicky when you pull the lamp away from the plastic base plate that is mounted to the bands. But you can angle it down a good ways. In fact, you can aim it pretty much vertically down.

Absolutely love this headlamp, except that I have the external 4 “c” size battery pack. Yes the batteries last for trip after trip after trip and the battery pack stays close to the body during those extremely cold climbs but it is heavy.

It's nice to get all the light you need with the halogen feature. However, for most mountain outings, all you need is the LED. The unit is large and heavy compared with other lamps that give adequate light in a much smaller package. But when I anticipate on an outing that I won't want to skimp on light, I bring the Duo.

I've a 14LED version. It's remarkable. I like the lock on the switch.
