Bue Kazoo

I have several of these sleeping bags (in two versions); two are 27 (YO) and the other are two years old. The earlier versions weigh right at 2 lbs and the new ones weigh 3 lbs. There are good features for both.

The newer Blue Kazoos are a true three season bag (here in WA) and are rated conservatively at 20 degrees. The earlier bags are chilly at 20 degrees (but comfortable at 30+). The bags compress well and take up little more space (in your pack) then a down coat. The new bags are roomy for me (I'm 6') but they do come in a Long (6'6") version at the cost of a little extra added weight.

The shell is soft and somewhat water resistant. With the handy closers it is easy to get in and out of and also adjust the temperature in. For the price (I purchased the new ones for $130.00) they are an excellent value.

I bought the Blue Kazoo about 5 years ago. Ever since, it has served me quite well. It is the old version of the bag, so some of the features that the other reviewer mentioned are not on mine. There are alot of good qualities, and only a few problems.



I'll start with the good: Excellent compressibility, good warmth to weight ratio, Very lightweight bag. The bag is very durable. I've had it for 5+ years now and it has yet to give out. The stiching has held up, and it has constantly retained it's fluff.



Bad: Could be more waterproof. Also the rating on the bag is a little optimistic. I'm a medium size guy, and I don't mind cold very much. I might be able to go down to 20 with a full meal and a good base layer, but I feel much more comfortable in high 20+ temps. Then again, maybe that's just me. The face closeure could contain a little more padding, because it feels a tad uncomfortable when it is fully cinched.



Overall, it is another quality TNF product. I do reccomend this bag to backpackers as a 3 season workhorse. Very comfortable bag.Definatly worth the money.

I think the temp rating is right on, but I sleep warm. I have used the bag with long underwear and fleece down to around -5, but don't really recommend that as the temp rating. I have spent at least 700 nights in this bag in the last 8 years, the zipper finally gave out this year. It still works but is hard to use. The bag itself is still in good condition, although it coiuld use restuffing. I would highly recommend the bag. It is light and useful in many conditions.
