Overview

This route is more appropriate for a descent or when on a longer crossing of Karavanke range. You better ascend by one of the steeper routes and then go by this nice ridge far towards the east. It is a bit unpleasant also that to return for example to Sv. Duh church, you have from Spodnje Sleme even some 6 km of a road to go. And it descends and ascends in between some 200 meters. Otherwise the ascent is easy, only a few places are steeper. From Spodnje Sleme some 3 h, difficulty T2. Below, the route will be described in descent.

The Route Description chapter below refers to the route 3. Please enlarge the map to see it in detail!

Getting There

See the parent page how to get by car on Spodnje Sleme, 1259 m. The approaches are from the south (Solčava) and from the east (Črna).

Route Description

From the summit of Govca (the highest point of Olševa), you go by the ridge towards the east. At first the path reaches rocks on the ridge, where it turns steeply down towards the south. But soon the path again starts crossing the steep slopes towards the east. We are moving just below the main ridge, above us there is a beautiful scenery of limestone rock towers.

After this crossing, the path continues a more flat part of the east ridge. But it is a beautiful one. Last larches, dense grass and beautiful views all around. We are approaching Raduha on the righ, far on the left is the whole massif of Peca/Petzen. Soon we ascend a very undistinct bump of Gladki vrh, 1850 m, a bit later also the one of Odenični hriber, 1863 m. From the first one a path deters right down - to Podolševa. But we continue eastwards, all the way to Lepi vrh, 1619 m, where the path turns a bit right and starts descending steeply. Soon it dives into dense woods and only time to time the views open across Koprivna valley towards Uršlja gora. The path does a few a bit steeper descents, avoids some last rocks and then below a less distinct forrested ridge reaches the elevation of Zgornje (Upper) Sleme. From it you can either continue down to Spodnje (Lower) Sleme, or, when you hit it, take a cart road right, which brings you on Podolševa terrace significantly more towards the west.
