Approach

The starting point is the Neue Prager Huette, 2.796m.

Route Description

Leave the hut in westward direction and then turn south to cross the Schlatenkees below Schwarze Wand. The part below the Schwarze Wand is characterized by big crevasses covered by rather instable snow and by the danger of rock and ice fall.
The following steep slope (approx. 35-40 degrees) of the Hoher Zaun is only safe while the snow is still crisp and cold. Anyway, once you've climbed this slope, the following part of the route is a lot easier and leads you in a big circle below the Hoher Zaun via the Ă„usserer Mullwitzkees to the SW-ridge of the Kristallwand, which will usually be rather cornice-free.
A final easy ascent to the top and you might be the first to sign the summit log for the last couple of weeks.
Descend on the way you took for the ascent, but be aware now that snow conditions might have dramatically changed on the Schlatenkees!

Essential Gear

Ice axe is necessary anyway, crampons might be helpful later in summer. As you will have to cross many crevasses, bring a rope, harness and ice screws....just in case. And don't walk alone.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
