Approach

Park on the main street on the west side of town near a sign that reads " Gold Hill elevation 6200." It's just east of the highway department building.

Route Description

From the green building on Main Street head up the hill aiming to the left of the water tanks. Angle toward the two large rock formations on the left. You can climb the actual formations at easy fifth class or bypass the formations and opt for scrambling over the talus fields. The rock bands have many hand and foot holds and aside from a short chimney section on the first band and the first twenty feet of the second band, are probably fourth class. from the top of the rock formations continue to the top of the ridge which ends on a peaklet three or four hundred feet below the actual summit. After traversing a small saddle head up the remaining few hundred feet to the top aiming for the many poles on the summit.

Essential Gear

Not worth bringing gear for the short fifth class sections. Solo, or bypass.

For most parties it's probably less than three hours from car to car, but don't forget the water especially in hot weather.

Miscellaneous Info

If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.

History

Don't forget to read the many inscriptions on the summit. There are quite a few on the large iron flagpole, some of which date back to 1878!
