Lost Mine Trail

Route Description

To begin this hike, simply follow the Lost Mine Trail untill you reach an elevation of 6800 ft. The trail partially tops out here, and you are able to see the peak through the trees. Here you begin the bushwhack. Head north, and follow the contours to the best of your ability towards the base of peak. If you don't follow them exactlly, it won't matter too much, it's relatively flat up here. After you lose about 200 ft, you'll be at the base of the peak. Begin your scramble. Staying too near the large spires and blocks can lead to heavier bushwhacking, and straying too far can lengthen your trip and lead to unnesecary elevation loss. Stay to the left of the first spire, then skirt around the right edge of the next block of rock. From here, scramble up and to your right, heading generally to the right side of the next large spire that splits the 2 summit blocks. Eventually you will need to pass to the left of this spire, but if you head left too quickly, the bushwhack will be much more difficult. When you come up level with the base of the spire, cut across and move up the left side. Scramble up this very steep scree slope until you reach the top of the gully. Once you are there, it is only a short 4th class climb up to summit. The true summit is on the left, and the false is on your right. Enjoy the amazing views.
