I remember see a lady on a commercial using her rewards points to do this peak. After your excellent TR, maybe someday I will save my points and do the same thing. Excellent TR, great photos and very informative. The pistures made me feel as if I was on the climb with you.
heheh, I had no idea about the commercial until after I did the climb. When friends saw the photos everyone was saying "oh! You climbed the peak in that bank commercial!".
Waa? Apparently I was the last one to know about Ancient Art being featured this way :-)
You can see climbers on the route from the TH, and the hike through the Fishers to the base of the Titan is absolutely gorgeous. So even if you don't have all your points saved up, you should at least take check the area out if you ever near Moab!
What a great TR, man, I wish we had those splitter cracks in Europe! I also have the problem of not knowing where to post stuff sometimes. Maybe we can solve this with software... :p
I was pleasantly surprised to see that your bulk photo uploaded also automatically filled in captions from the photo metadata (e.g. if I had already written captions for Picasa), making it more convenient to repost photos on SP instead of referencing them. Maybe you could make a bulk trip report uploader? :-p
Glad you noticed that! I wanted that for myself because I use LightRoom to embed the metadata, and it gets picked up by Flickr, or many other services. I thought Summitpost should do the same thing.
A bulk multi-service uploader would enable our worst tendencies. We'd be propagating a kind of denial-of-creativity attack by publishing our own stories on so many channels at once that nothing else can get through! :D For a while, I stored my reports in XML and wrote transforms to send them to whatever gathering place I was at. But I dropped that a few years ago, and now I'm hopelessly unorganized :p.
Do you know how Lightroom compares to Picasa? Picasa is annoying to use with multiple computers & an external hard drive, but I would want to maintain the face tagginging and ease of uploading to the Picasa storage. However, I do have a limited opportunity to get a legitimate copy of Lightroom for <$40, though since I have Photoshop, it sounds like I'd only have an interest in using it instead of the Picasa photo browser.
I'd be curious to see what you have working with the XML thing. At the very least I wonder if using something like it could save me a lot of the pain of gathering separate URLs for the images & hyperlinks from Picasa?
Wonderful area, and the loose rock on Stolen Chimney isn't all that bad compared to many alpine climbs. The rock integrity certainly is in question & the texture is gritty, but there's isn't a lot of loose stuff to knock off. Just make sure you're comfortable climbing at the grade on dirty rock.
Nice long trip report! Does a good job of conveying to the reader the beauty of the Utah desert. Is making me think of it myself again (in the middle of a CO ski trip!)- hopefully I'll find myself there again soon! It would be cool to do a trip out there together. Thanks for posting!
