Approach

The base of the climb is Refugio de Linza (1.350 m). See the MAIN PAGE / "Getting There" to approach to the refuge.

Route Description

From the hut follow the trail at bottom of Barranco de Petrechema. Go into a beautiful beechwood where there is a picnic spot (with drinking fountain) called Merendero Plano de la Casa. The path will cross the stream sometimes until gaining a few tens of meters to reach a forest trail. Continue it eastwards and almost horizontally. Suddenly the forest trail turns into a trail that leaves the beechwood and reach a flat. The valley narrows at this point. So the path starts (1.580 m approx.) an ascent to the right (S) up to the Point 1.640 m and then goes eastwards crossing a stone field. Reach a little col (1.775 m)

Refugio de Acherito variant
Just when the forest trail turns into a trail (1.420 m approx.) ascend SE-E wards on a grassy slope in the beechwood towards Refugio de Acherito. Continue E wards on a path and through a black pinewood to the Point 1.640 m.

From the little col (1.775 m) traverse a flat below some rocky formatios and surround a hollow known as Foya del Ingeniero. Ascend NE wards in a wide gully and reach the Point 1.987 m that leads to another dip. Continue ascending NE-E wards to Collado de Petrechema (2.084 m). Follow the path N wards to the Point 2.213 m (W of Pequeño Pico de Ansabere). Leave it to the right and finally gain the last meters to the summit of Petrechema.

Pequeño Pico de Ansabere (2.254 m) variant

At approximately 2.120 m leave the trail that climbs to the Point 2.213 m from Collado de Petrechema and reach the E spur of the peak. Climb it to the top. The view over Agujas Sur de Ansabere is incredible from this point.

Essential Gear

In summer take enough water for the complete climb because you won't find it the hole route. Also wear a cap and bring a shell jacket in order to protect yourself from a possible downpour. In winter and early spring wear warm clothes, take crampons and ice axe. The compass, map and altimeter could also be advisable anytime of the year.

Route Comment

Generally many people make this route for the climb of peak Sobarcal (and Petrechema as well in the same hike). Near of col of Petrechema (usual name is Puerto de Ansó) we turn to right side (east) to the rocky final climb of Sobarcal or Petrageme (2255m) of grade I+ (F+). It's a very interesting peak.
It's possible that some day in the future I'll write the page of Sobarcal with some pictures but for the moment this is a good orientation for the route of this peak.

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
