Drove east on Hwy 108 from Hwy 395, and turned left a couple miles past the 8000 foot level. Traveled 4 miles up a 4wd road to Leavitt Lake. Started walking at 7am, heading south for the obvious notch. There is a good trail to the notch. Got there, went right, and followed the trail along the ridge until it met the PCT. The PCT runs along the east side of the peak. Took the trail across the NE face, and then headed up the NE ridge, following a good use trail to the top. Went down the same way. Would make a good trail run, especially if starting at the junction of Hwy 108 and Leavitt Lake Road. This is a class 1 route, but offers great physical conditioning, and wonderful views, especially down to Kennedy Lake. After 108 opens in the spring, a ski descent off the peak would be awesome. One could stage a car at Kennedy Meadows on the west side, and another parked at the intersection of 108 and LL Rd (mentioned above). The southern slopes offer a 3000-foot ski run at 35-40 degrees, and then a long, fun schuss down to Kennedy Meadows. See you next spring!
