Approach

So as the route to Lancebranlette, the route starts just from the RN90, in French territory, on the back of the old building of the Hospice (tenth Century), not far from the Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass (2188m).

Route Description

The first part of the route is common with the route to Lancebranlette, as far as the fork at 2450m: instead of going straight, turn left. The path leads briefly to the shore of the Lac Sans Fond, in pratice at the same altitude of the fork. It is dominated by the overhanging Lancebranlette, Bec des Rousses, Mont Fourclaz and Pointe du Lac sans Fond, too.

It is advisable to go round the lake looking for the best views; towards South the sight arrives at the far French mountain ranges. Since the zone of Petit Saint Bernard is often windy, in such days le Lac sans Fond could be an alternative destination, because of the protective action of the near mountain ranges.
