Ski tour to Jungfrau 4158m
We did this ski tour as a one-day trip from Zurich. We left Zurich at 04:00 AM & took the first train up to the Jungfraujoch (at 3454m) along with many friendly & entertaining Indians. From there we left with Skis to the Rottallsattel at 3885m, deposited our skis & climbed the exposed & steep south-east flank to the peak of the Jungfrau at 4185m.Even in descent the greatest concentration is required, the icy flankis very exposed - any fall would be fatal. There is a "man-eating place" on the Jungfrau where people frequently fall. Just after the Rottal saddle there is a depression that must be crossed. One of the securing poles is missing at the beginning & this has been the source of many accidents. Once again thanks to those (guides ?) who put in the securing poles. These sensible security devices prevent deadly accidents & save many lives. In addition they reduce the effort & expenses of rescue operations.
